My daughter's fourth grade class was attending a field trip at the Gaillard Auditorium. For this trip, they were instructed to wear their Sunday clothes. "Sunday Clothes" in my culture is defined as: clothing deemed appropriately for church or a religious setting. Growing up these were considered our "good clothes" or "formal attire."
Unfortunately not everyone grew up the way this way. I have always taught my children that it doesn't matter what you have, or don't have. As well it is always good to give to someone less fortunate. Unbeknownst to me, my 4th grader had a classmate that did not own any sunday clothes. She snuck one of her dresses out of the house and took to school for the young lady to wear. Well my fourth grader was no average fourth grader. She was in the 90th percentile in weight and height of the average child her age. This particular classmate was totally opposite. She was probably what they considered below average according to the percentile growth chart utilized by the American Board of Pediatrics. As you can imagine, her gift was an OVERSIZED fit. Although the dress was beautiful, and the classmate was appreciative of my daughter's good deed, the dressed was too big for her and was falling off her shoulders. Having "Sunday Clothes" was better than having none so the size of the dress did not matter.
I saw this young lady one day and all I could think about was how she had grown in weight and height. She was now able to fit that dress. That's how it is in life. Sometimes we are adorned in "Sunday Clothes'' that's too big for us today, but may be just right in the future. "Sunday Clothes'' are indicative to our dreams, jobs, ministry, and positions in life. You may feel like that "dress" is OVERSIZED because it's not fitting how you would like. You may deem it invaluable. You tell yourself that you are not qualified because it doesn't fit your lifestyle.
I challenge you today to allow yourself to grow into that OVERSIZED dress. It may be too big today, but tomorrow it will fit perfectly. Allow the process of growth to take place in your life. Stop looking for instant results. A diamond is not made overnight. Don't discard your Sunday Clothes today because you are not comfortable in the fit. You will grow into that dress with the silhouette of maturity, wisdom, confidence and boldness to handle the assignment you have been given. Achieving a mindset of tailor made attire.
Remember you cannot clean up a chemical spill wearing latex gloves. Granted latex gloves fit best, but it will not provide the protection that you need.
